Renee Weisman was a Distinguished Engineer and Director of Engineering at IBM Corporation prior to retiring in 2007. Her career included executive and technical leadership positions as well as a history of fostering Women in Technology. One of the first woman engineers, engineering managers and senior managers in the microelectronics division, Renee has over 39 years of experience in industry and education. She has led diverse organizations, largely male, to business and technical success. She has over twenty US Patents and Invention Disclosures. Prior to joining IBM Renee taught at both the high school and the university level.

Renee holds a BA in Chemistry from Douglass College and an MS in electrochemistry from Vassar College. She is a NY State Certified teacher, a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Women in Technology International (WITI). She was a member of the College Industry Advisory Council at the University of Massachusetts, was the executive partner for IBM to Vassar College and was inducted into the Douglass Society of distinguished graduates.

Renee has coached and mentored numerous employees within and outside IBM, organized and sponsored women’s network initiatives, and has written a book entitled Winning in a Man’s World: Advice for Women Who Want to Succeed and the Men Who Work With Them. Having worked in heavily male dominated engineering organizations, she has learned how to make gender differences in the workplace an advantage for the employee and the company. She has designed a variety of classes tailored to enhance women in their careers and to enable male managers to better understand how to capitalize on the differences between men and women in industry. She has taught these classes at numerous companies and universities as well as business women’s events. She has been married for forty years and raised two children without a nanny or full time help.
